Licensing for a Pediatric Medical Device Research Institute
BACKGROUND
Mark Chandler has assisted the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation (SZI) for several years, serving as Entrepreneur in Residence.
Our Analysis
- Mr. Chandler has helped guide researchers and management in development and commercial strategy. 
- Mr. Chandler assisted in several spin-out ventures from the Institute. SZI is part of the Research Institutes of Children’s National Medical Center, one of the leading U.S. children’s hospitals. 
- Mr. Chandler has also helped advise eKare, Inc., another SZI spin-off company, which recently won a Washington Business Journal Innovation Award for their 3D wound assessment technology. 
Outcome
Mr. Chandler helped negotiate a license and equity transaction to provide a robotic surgery company, Omniboros, with rights to a large patent portfolio. Silicon Valley VC, Great Point Ventures, funded the start-up, which will be continuing in vivo testing throughout 2018.
